Tattoos Of Flowers And What They Mean

Nowadays, more and more women are opting for tattoos. As more women decide to get tattoos, the designs of flower tattoos continue to go up in popularity. The best thing about tattoos of flowers is the fact that there are many different colors and types of flowers - providing many different significances as well. The flowers can mean various things, although the specific types of flowers such as the Rose and Lily can have a more specific significance.

Generally tattoos of flowers have a connection with nature, evoking thoughts and images of life and vitality. When we look at a flower, we see the lifespan, simply flowers connect with us in the fact we both develop. The flowers emerge from the ground and continue to develop daily. Then, the flowers bloom, knowing that they will dry later and will start to fade away.

To have a tattoo of a flower brings back the complete process known as life. However, bear in mind, that various colors and flowers on tattoos will mean other things as well. Tattoos of white flowers symbolize purity, whereas red tattoos of flowers can symbolize an extreme passion. There are many colors and designs available, giving an abundance of significance to those wishing a tattoo of a flower.

The Rose is the design of the most common flower for tattoos, symbolizing the love. During the turning of the 16th century, roses were tattooed on those which were condemned to death. If they were to escape from the gallows, the tattoo of the Rose would be used as a symbol to identify them easily. Nowadays, the Rose symbolizes the love and passion. Roses were a long time known as a romantic, popular flower for special occasions with those we love.

In the Western areas, rose tattoos are a symbol of the love and purity. In the Eastern areas however, the love and the purity are symbolized by a lotus flower. Tattoos with tulips represent the passion of love and the reputation for being a great lover. If you prove to be shy and timid, you may want to go with a violet flower tattoo. Violets are common tattoos for those which are timid and shy, and have pleasure in taking things slow. On the other hand, those wanting to symbolize wisdom and virtue, would be well to obtain an Iris. Should Tattoos Be On Women?

I came across an article in the Sky News Wire about tattoos for women.

It was interesting because it pointed out how long tattooing has been around and culturally the reasons behind some tattoos on women.

Like in Borneo, women would tattoo themselves to show what they were skilled at, such as weaving or the gatherer of medicinal herbs.  This communicated their rank as marriage material.

In western Asia, girls were tattooed in such a way as to show their place in society.

In the last 20 years, approximately 50% of all tattoos are now done on women.  Particularly, soccer moms and professional women aged between 18 to 40.

Tattooing despite being banned many times in different cultures for periods of time, it still appears that it will never go away.

With the world of freedom of expression, it’s no wonder tattoos are becoming more popular among the lower backs of many women, ankles, forearms and anywhere else on the body.

Let’s not forget the celebrities getting in on the action too, such as, Pamela Anderson, Christina Applegate, Victoria Beckham and Angelina Jolie.

Just remember, to take your time to choose the right design and make sure you deal with a reputable shop.

Tattoos On Women With A Religious Meaning

I came across an article in the Star Tribune about a university student called Melanie, who bears two tattoos.

What’s unusual about that? I hear you say.  Well to most of you nothing  much but to the Jewish community, it might well be a different story.

You see, traditional Jewish law bans tattoos, based on Leviticus 19:28 and the fact that tattoos also ties back to the Holocaust.

However, increasing numbers of younger Jews are embracing tattoos, which have shed many of their negative stereotypes.  They no longer are considered the purview of bikers, convicts and drunken servicemen.  Instead they have found a foothold in the under 30 set.

They have gone from being outlaw symbols to fashion statements!

So for Melanie, a young Yewish girl herself, was it right for her to ignore her parents and her culture?

I don’t think so, because her tattoos have a lot of symbolism.  Her first tattoo is an olive branch wreath that incorporates the Star of David.  Her second tattoo is her name in Hebrew with the date of her bat mitzvah and a tribute to her late grandparents.

You can see Melanie’s tattoos and read her full story here.
